Madison County Public Health officials along with ARISE staff were on hand at ARISE at the Farm to unveil a new communication board for people with disabilities. A communication board is a device that displays photos, symbols, or illustrations to help people with limited language skills express themselves. The Alternative Communication (AAC) Institute estimates that around 3.5 million people in the United States need assistance communicating because of speech and language disabilities.

The board located in the accessible playground at ARISE at the Farm was donated by the Madison County Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs program (CYSHCN). Which offers support to children from birth through age 21 and their families. CYSHCN staff can provide information and assist with information and referrals for families of children with disabilities and/or suspected disabilities. Thank You CYSHCN!
